The Berman Skin Institute is one of the world's largest dermatologic and aesthetic laser surgery centers. Dr. Berman and his highly trained experts strive to blend state-of-the-art medical technology and research with a dedication to patient welfare and healing to provide you with the best possible dermatologic care. Physicians at our center are board-certified dermatologists and dermatologic surgeons. Our staff of 35 also include physician assistants, nurse practitioners and registered nurses who collectively provide a team approach in caring for the 60,000 patients that have visited us since 1993.

Lasers have been used for the removal of unwanted hair by physicians since 1998. Since that time the technology used has dramatically improved and patients, including those with dark skin, are seeing very good and lasting results. Generally laser hair removal is 80% to 90% effective, meaning 90% of hair in the area will likely remain gone. Follow up maintenance treatments may be needed at 6 months to a year following the initial series of treatment to maintain hair removal.

It’s important if you are considering laser hair removal to protect your skin from the sun. Lasers work by targeting the melanin pigment in your hair follicle and if your skin is more tan than normal, this can have an effect on the laser’s ability to properly target the hair. As the hair follicle absorbs the laser light, this will trigger the hair’s natural resting, or telogen, phase.
