I HATE shaving with a passion. I had always been skeptical about laser hair removal. It seems like a gimmick and I always considered it way out of my budget...BUT finally I had my breaking point and said "what the heck I'll just learn more by going to a free consult"...I typed in DC Laser hair removal and on google of the first places that came up in the search results was lasersurgery.com and it was the site for The Center for Laser Surgery. I ended up trying a treatment and let me tell you it REALLY DOES WORK! The hair's like pop out as the laser hits the follicle its really quite interesting to see! I ended up having 4 treatments for my underarms and they were completely tolerable pain wise. They applied numbing cream before hand and I would assimilate the feeling of the laser to a rubber band snapping on your skin. My armpit hair is GONE! and hopefully forever but I guess we will see. I think I'm going to get my bikini done next. I guess it is expensive at first glance, but when I realized how much I was spending a year on shaving blades and such it it completely worth it. I had a great experience at the center for laser surgery; thumbs up for the free consult, very nice office, staff very friendly, nice relaxing waiting room, and easy parking (not free but its 3 bucks an hour, the center should validate parking...especially when paying 225 per treatment...) and would highly recommend the place to anyone in the wash dc metro area looking for laser hair removal

Laser Hair Removal
Dr. Robert Adrian is the Director of the Center for Laser Surgery, Washington DC's leader in cosmetic laser surgery & dermatology.

Lasers have been used for the removal of unwanted hair by physicians since 1998. Since that time the technology used has dramatically improved and patients, including those with dark skin, are seeing very good and lasting results. Generally laser hair removal is 80% to 90% effective, meaning 90% of hair in the area will likely remain gone. Follow up maintenance treatments may be needed at 6 months to a year following the initial series of treatment to maintain hair removal.

It’s important if you are considering laser hair removal to protect your skin from the sun. Lasers work by targeting the melanin pigment in your hair follicle and if your skin is more tan than normal, this can have an effect on the laser’s ability to properly target the hair. As the hair follicle absorbs the laser light, this will trigger the hair’s natural resting, or telogen, phase.
