Laser Hair Removal |
|
Lasers have been used for the removal of unwanted hair by physicians since 1998. Since that time the technology used has dramatically improved and patients, including those with dark skin, are seeing very good and lasting results. Generally laser hair removal is 80% to 90% affective, meaning 90% of hair in the area will likely remain gone. Follow up maintenance treatments may be needed at 6 months to a year following the initial series of treatment to maintain hair removal.
It’s important if you are considering laser hair removal to protect your skin from the sun. Lasers work by targeting the melanin pigment in your hair follicle and if your skin is more tan than normal, this can have an effect on the laser’s ability to properly target the hair. As the hair follicle absorbs the laser light, this will trigger the hair’s natural resting, or telogen, phase.

I have been going to Dr. Chapas for seven months now and I am very pleased with the condition of my acne. I have had acne for 17 years, been on every kind of topical treatment, oral antibiotics, accutane twice with unsatisfactiry results. I have been going for smoothbeam laser treatment for the past 7 months (7 treatments) and it has been the only treatment that has every worked. I really just wish that I had her as a doctor 17 years ago.
As for Dr. Chapas, she is everything a doctor should be; knowledgeable, personal, and wants to see you look the best you possible can. Not to mention very nice on the eyes.
If you are looking for a great doctor in the NYC area, I strongly advise scheduling an apointment with Dr. Chapas.
